Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious PlayStation 5 exclusives. Directed by Hideo Kojima, the sequel promises a visually stunning and technically demanding experience, which is why it’s currently confirmed only for PS5, with no plans for a PS4 version.
But what about PC and Xbox Series X/S?
🚫 Not on PC or Xbox (At Launch)
At the time of writing, Sony is publishing Death Stranding 2 exclusively for PS5, and no official announcements have been made regarding a release on PC or Xbox. That means you can only play DS2 on PlayStation 5 when it launches.
🖥️ A PC Port Seems Likely (Eventually)
While PC players are left waiting for now, there’s strong precedent for optimism:
- Death Stranding 1 launched on PS4 in 2019, followed by a PC release via Steam in July 2020, published by 505 Games.
- The Director’s Cut followed a similar pattern: PS5 in September 2021, PC in March 2022, and surprisingly on Xbox Series X/S in November 2024.
Sony has been more open to porting its first-party titles to PC in recent years. Games like Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, and The Last of Us Part I have all made the leap — usually after a 6–18 month exclusivity window.
🟢 Prediction: A PC version of Death Stranding 2 is highly likely, possibly within a year or two of the PS5 launch.
❌ Xbox Release? Less Certain, but Possible
The Xbox situation is more complicated. The original Death Stranding only arrived on Xbox five years after launch — and even then, only the Director’s Cut, not the base game.
If Sony continues to hold publishing rights exclusively for DS2, an Xbox port would require similar third-party involvement (likely 505 Games) and probably wouldn’t happen until several years after release — if at all.
🟡 Prediction: A potential Xbox release of DS2 is possible, but if it occurs, it may not arrive until 2027 or later.
🧠 Kojima Is Still Working with Xbox – OD is Coming
Xbox players can still look forward to Hideo Kojima’s upcoming horror project, OD (Overdose), a mysterious new game being developed in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios and filmmaker Jordan Peele. Although the project is still far off — especially after delays caused by the 2024 SAG-AFTRA strike — it’s proof that Kojima Productions isn’t exclusive to PlayStation.
⚡ TL;DR — Platform Breakdown
Platform | Death Stranding 2 Status |
---|---|
PS5 | ✅ Confirmed Exclusive at Launch |
PS4 | ❌ Not Releasing (Too Technically Demanding) |
PC | 🟢 Likely After Delay (No Official Date Yet) |
Xbox | 🟡 Unlikely Soon, Possible Years Later |
